Private surgery vs Public Surgery

All Australians with a valid Medicare number are entitled to public surgery which is fully covered by the Government with no additional costs. Public patients cannot choose their doctor or their date of surgery and are triaged according to clinical priority.

Patients with Private Health Insurance are able to choose their doctor, their hospital and sometimes their date of surgery if appropriate. Private patients will have some fees covered by a combination of Medicare and their Private Health Fund but may incur some additional out-of-pocket costs, depending on their level of coverage.

Dr Chan is able to provide access to both private and public surgery for her patients.
